Ashley and I went to 311 and Matisyahu at Red Rocks on Wednesday. We were a little nervous about the weather (it had been pouring rain earlier) but it cleared up and seemed like a great night for a show. We had a blast but wow, it was crazy. Here is just some of the craziness.
General admission at Red Rocks is a Bad Idea. The people that arrive early expect that they get to be the only people in the seat their in. Later, as more people arrive, they think they get to stand anywhere since it's GA. Combine that with lots of alcohol and blunts and fights are breaking out left and right. Ashley and I experienced that first hand as fights broke out in front of us and behind us, covering us in spilled beer.
We were standing there between bands and decided to light up two clove cigarettes. Red Rocks security walked up to us and asked "is that tobacco?" We nodded and she told us to put it out. She pointed at a joint that people in the row ahead of us were passing and said, "that's okay. Tobacco isn't. You can smoke tobacco in designated areas only." We were shocked, needless to say.
Finally, it's just weird to watch thousands of drunk, stoned, degenerate teenagers (wow, am I cynical? or even hypocritical? yes.) watch a true orthodox Jew singing reggae about God and going NUTS over it.
311 wasn't so great. We left in the middle of it.

Work is crazy right now. I'm doing two 4-hour presentations on web application security this week so I've been in the office all weekend preparing. 8 hours of presenting == lots of content preparation. I also have to fairly sizable new projects kicking off in the next week or so that I expect to be very busy with.Ashley and I hung out in Lakewood last night with Josh, Jen and Dave, who's in town from Vegas for Sturgis. Harley's are lame. Why doesn't Dave know this?
That's all I've got for now. Back to work.

The saga continues. I took it to the shop again today to have the radio replaced - it was randomly turning off/munging the display/causing me general dissatisfaction. I'm never buying a new car again.Tuesday, July 31, 2007, 11:42 AM - General
Colorado is hot. I'm in desperate need of the ever-cooling pillow, a yet-to-be-invented pillow that keeps my head cool without constant flipping. Before anyone points me to the chillow, know that I will never own an object that combines two words (chill and pillow) in to a product name. My stupid window-AC unit works pretty well for cooling down my 900 sq. ft. condo, but in the middle of the night something goes terribly wrong and there's a WHACK-WHACK-WHACK sound that wakes me up, angry and bleary eyed. The new drum set is rocking my world (and my pocket book). I ended up picking up a high quality Tama high hat stand to go along with it. I'm thrilled to be drumming again. I've decided to learn the Moeller Method, which should improve my speed significantly. So far I've only learned how much better I am with my right hand than my left. Here's my favorite YouTube video with a drummer who really rocks the Moeller Method.
Meeting a new little next Wednesday. I'm excited! Now I can finally go to WaterWorld.

I'm like a kid before Christmas. I have a sweet, rather large Pearl Export series acoustic kit that I haven't been able to play in years due to noise concerns (neighbors in condos and apartments generally don't appreciate regular drum practice sessions). Now I've decided that it's time to sell my acoustic set and purchase a top of the line electric. I'll be able to play to my heart's content with head phones on, plug in an ipod/stereo/computer and play along, and even lay down tracks. W00t!Next
